Yu Liandong, Assistant to the President and Deputy Director of the National Key Laboratory of Deep Oil and Gas Reservoirs, delivered a speech.
The inaugural National Seminar on Sand Control and Production Completion Technology for Oil and Gas Reservoirs was initiated by our institute in 2021, led by Professor Dong Changyin. The second seminar, held recently, was hosted by the National Key Laboratory of Deep Oil and Gas Reservoirs, China University of Petroleum (East China), and other key organizations.
The theme was "Innovative Sand Control, Water Control, and Production Enhancement Coordination, Promoting Efficient Oil and Gas Energy Development." The conference focused on sand control and fluid-solid management in various oil and gas reservoirs, with an emphasis on production completion technology. The event included a seminar for young technical talents and an exhibition featuring 15 companies.
In his speech, Wan Yunbo highlighted the challenges faced in China's oil and gas development, such as reservoir instability and high water content, which restrict stable production. Innovations in sand control and fluid-solid management are essential for efficient development. This conference aims to establish a platform for long-term exchange among professionals.
Keynote speakers, including Wu Nengyou and Li Jiangtao, presented on topics such as "Integrated Perspective on Marine Natural Gas Hydrate Sand Production Control" and "Comprehensive Sand Control Practices for Loose Sandstone Gas Reservoirs." Experts emphasized the need for a systematic approach to sand production issues, considering geological safety and the marine environment, particularly for the future development of marine natural gas hydrates (combustible ice).
Wu Nengyou delivered a keynote speech at the conference.
The conference featured 15 keynote presentations from leading experts in sand control and well completion technologies, representing organizations such as CNOOC Research Institute, Bohai Petroleum Research Institute of CNOOC Tianjin Branch, PetroChina Exploration and Development Research Institute, CNOOC Energy Development, CNOOC Oilfield Services, Shengli Oilfield, Dagang Oilfield, Jidong Oilfield, Tarim Oilfield, China University of Petroleum (East China), China University of Petroleum (Beijing), and Yangtze University. The presentations covered a wide range of topics, including loose sandstone reservoirs, low-permeability fracturing, deep carbonate reservoirs, natural gas hydrates, coalbed methane, and gas storage reservoirs. These areas of focus are highly relevant to international researchers working on advancements in oil and gas extraction and reservoir management.

Conference Report Exchange Experts
The types of sandy oil and gas reservoirs in China are diverse, including not only traditional loose sandstone reservoirs but also unconventional low-permeability reservoirs, deep carbonate rocks, and fractured sandstones, as well as gas hydrates, coalbed methane, oil and gas storage reservoirs, and geothermal (water) wells. All of these reservoirs face severe sand production challenges. To address this issue, innovative approaches are needed from the perspective of flow and solid control and management, focusing on sand prevention, water control, and production enhancement to achieve efficient sand control, stable water reduction, and increased oil (gas) production.

The conference also featured 32 youth forum presentations and 50 technical posters, covering various aspects of petroleum and geological energy reservoirs, including sand control, water control, completion, and production enhancement technologies. The topics spanned fundamental theories, experimental research, numerical simulations, process technologies, and hardware equipment. After review by the on-site academic committee, 45 presentations/technical posters were awarded first prize for outstanding papers, and 24 technical posters received second prize. An award ceremony was held during the closing session of the conference.
